100 days into health regime

Feeling very pleased with myself for completing the first 100 days of my new lifestyle. When I think about how I was feeling both physically and mentally just over 14 weeks ago, the change has been tremendous.

Three months ago I was virtually unable to walk around without two large bariatric crutches and even standing up was incredibly painful as my huge stomach pulled me forwards. Now having lost over 5 and a half stone I am now able to move around and without pain.

There has been a marked improvement in my mental state too, as I can now see a future.  Although I will not become complacent I have not been tempted to binge eat at all.  This has really pleased me.

This morning after a blood test I took Beau for a run over the green. This is his favourite area as it is enclosed and has a hillock at one end which he enjoys running up after his tennis ball. Beau is also benefitting from the change of lifestyle as he’s out most mornings for a good work out chasing his ball.

I sent the following photos to my four eldest children and received glowing responses. They believe you can really notice the difference but I cannot see it myself yet.

Week 14 Weigh in success

Up bright and early at 5 this morning as I was looking forward to this week’s weigh-in and I was not disappointed.  Another six pounds bites the dust.

It puts you in such a good mood when you see all your hard work paying off. After a month of a weekly loss of a pound or two, it is such a thrill to follow up last week’s three pound loss with six this week.

I had a feeling it had been a good week because I am beginning to feel a bit more comfortable standing up and I was able to do a good walk on the beach yesterday.

The coast seems to call me and it is usually down to the seaside I head when I go out most mornings with my wife. Our Cocker spaniel Beau can get a good run out down there because there are plenty of green areas too for him to chase his tennis ball to his heart’s content.

My wife and I can break our walk up by ambling from one bench to another, while we take in the brisk sea air and watch the large container ships heading up the Thames to the London Gateway Container Docks at Thurrock.

Beau excelled himself yesterday by chasing his tennis ball out into the sea. He is in his element down there and while the tennis ball is out he simply ignores all the other dogs that come into his eye line.

I’m heading down to the beach now at just gone  a.m. It’s still dark outside but Beau and myself can have a good walk along the sea wall.

Hoping for another great week ahead. It is my birthday on Saturday though so I will have to be extra careful with the celebrations.

Over five stone lost in 13 weeks

This morning my weigh-in revealed a 3-pound loss which makes a total of 5 stone 1 pound dropped in 13 weeks. That’s 71 pounds lost at a rate of just under 5 and a half pound a week.

The weight loss has not been without its difficulties. I have fallen over several times, both indoors and outdoors but it is becoming more comfortable to get around.

The worst fall of all was in the bath when I was trying to support my weight and my legs just gave way. It rather shock me up, not least the time and effort it took to get myself out of the bath.

I have sprained my ankles several times and the little bit of walking I have managed so far has left both hips in absolute agony.

Best of all during this opening 13 weeks is I have completely stopped eating processed foods and drinking diet fizzy drinks. This has stopped any food cravings and after the ten days of purging all these harmful chemicals contained in these items from my body, I feel I am able to think clearer.

With 7 weigh-ins left this year, my current weight is 29 stone 3 pounds or 409 lbs/185.5 kilos.   My first target is to get under the 400 pounds and by the end of this year, I want to be at 28 stone.

Wish me luck!

Sleep Apnoea machine

For years my wife was worried about that I regularly stopped breathing during my sleep. So much so that my wife would be frightened to go to sleep herself for fear of waking to find me dead next to her.

It became so bad that it could take up to twenty seconds of my wife shaking me for me to start breathing again. I would wake up totally oblivious to this but wonder why I felt so unrested.

My poor wife lost so much sleep herself that both of us would be scattered throughout the morning. I would then be struggling to keep my eyes open and constantly yawning mid-morning.

It was only the prospect of having lunch – which would be earlier and earlier – that kept me from taking to my bed. However, by 11 a.m. I was ready for my bed and often I would take many snacks upstairs with me and several cans of fizzy drink.

This would see me through until 4 p.m. when I would slowly make my way downstairs still feeling tired and ready for more snacks and fizzy drink before my evening meal.

It was only admission to the London Chest Hospital in Bethnal Green that revealed I had severe sleep apnoea and would stop breathing up to forty times per hour.

From the London Chest Hospital, I was sent across to St. Bartholomew’s to collect the rather fetching CPAP machine you can see me wearing in the photo below.

Steering wheel troubles

At only 5 feet 8 inches in height, I have to really stretch to reach the car pedals as my seat has to be on its furthest setting to accommodate my stomach.

This causes almost unbearable strain on my calf muscles and makes turning the steering wheel very difficult as my stomach is pressed firmly against it.

Lesson 1 Change your mindset

Today you start with a clean slate. Any past diet failures have no bearing on the first step you have decided to take today.

Whenever doubts creep in you need to remind yourself this is a new beginning. Tell yourself you will succeed this time because you have totally committed to losing weight because you deserve to become the person you desire to be.

You need to do only two things to complete this first lesson.

Firstly, you will create a positive affirmation that you will repeat ten times to yourself directly before getting into your bed this evening.

My own affirmation was:

I WILL BE UNDER THIRTY STONE BY CHRISTMAS EVE

Secondly, create an image in your mind of the size you would like to be. Before going to sleep visualise yourself stepping onto your bathroom scales and reaching this ideal weight.

Try to really feel how good it will make you feel to reach this ideal weight. Think of how good you will look and feel when you can get into those beautiful clothes that are just waiting for you to try on.

This is all you need to do in this first lesson but make sure you carry out the two previous instructions every night before you go to sleep.

These two powerful tools will help reprogram your subconscious and let it know that it will not stop you reaching your desired weight target.

Let’s get straight to it

You would not be here if you did not want to lose weight, so let’s get straight to it.

Like myself you have no doubt tried just about every weight loss program out there. And just like myself you probably had initial success only for the weight to creep back on until you find yourself heavier than before you joined that particular weight loss group.

IT’S AN ALL TOO FAMILIAR STORY AND YOU ARE NOT TO BLAME.

You did not fail. The slimming group simply did not prepare you adequately for the struggle ahead of you.  They kept a vital secret from you and only once you come to terms with why you feel the need to comfort eat, will you be able to reach your ideal weight.

YOU NEED TO ADDRESS WHY YOU COMFORT EAT.

Only having worked through these emotional issues can you keep the weight off for good.  By conquering your personal demons you can free yourself from the hold food has over you.

Theshrinkingman.com will equip you with the tools to take back the power food once held over you.  By facing up to and conquering the demons that undermine your self-esteem you will see the weight stay off for good.

The following lessons ask nothing from you other than commitment.  They are designed to increase your motivation, address low self-esteem and overcome comfort eating.

You have nothing to lose other than all those surplus pounds that may be holding you back from a healthier and happier lifestyle.
